Veterans
Scheme 2009
This
scheme is designed to support those of you who have “golden oldies”
aged 18 and over. As horses age there are different issues to
consider in their management. We want to support you in doing this
so that your horses can enjoy long, happy & healthy lives.
We
have put together a package covering the range of things you are
likely to plan to ask us to do anyway, plus a few things which we
feel are important & that not everyone thinks of, or knows to ask
for. For example, blood tests. We recommend specific tests which
will guide us about your horse’s wellbeing. Many of these tests have
a wide range of “normal”. If all is well they provide a baseline to
compare with in the future and so help as an early warning system.
You will have the results to keep in the record folder so that
future tests can be compared. Cushings disease becomes more likely
as horses get older, by checking the insulin level we can know if
your horse has this developing without waiting for him/her to
develop problems. With good management we can avoid many of the
problems associated with it, but we do need to start treating it
early.
This
package offers you the opportunity to plan your horse’s care and to
have time with a vet to discuss those little concerns which you
think about from time to time and then forget to ask about when the
vet is there!
